EXPERIENCE
My introduction to counselling was at age 19 when I volunteered as a phone counsellor with a Crisis Call service – I discovered my passion for counselling and became involved in training other volunteers. I continued on my original career path as a High School teacher, but soon realised that I wanted to pursue counselling professionally. I then returned to university to qualify as a psychologist, and did specialised training as a Couples Counsellor with the Marriage Guidance Council of NSW (now Relationship Australia). Several years working as a Couples Counsellor was followed by work as a Rehabilitation Counsellor (Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service) and a Student Counsellor (University of Technology, Sydney).
I began part-time private practice in 1987. Since then I have combined private practice work with either teaching or working within a counselling or healthcare team.
I have taught counselling skills at various organisations, including Sydney’s Nature Care College , the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service, the Australian College of Applied Psychology, the University of Sydney, and the University of South Australia.
My counselling roles include:
* working with people impacted by cancer at the Cancer Council, SA
* working with obesity at SA Health’s Bariatric Management & Intervention Unit.
* providing assessment and treatment programs for rehabilitation clients at the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service
